Corn Budget......

Iffin the baiting law passes..... What's gonna be y'alls plan for where you hunt(club, lease, own property, etc).... Gonna allow it? Or not? Do you feel like you'll have to put it out to keep up with your neighbors?

I'm gonna allow it on my lease....but I'm not gonna put it in our budget as for club dues go...... Personal preference here...do it if ya want....

Thoughts??

Probably ok with putting some out off season but not during season. Just enough to try to keep them happy at the club but try not to turn 'em all nocturnal during season. I'd imagine it's going to take some trial and error at first.

I'm also going to spend a lot more time on my food plots and mineral sites. I figure everyone will be so focused on corn they won't worry about the necessities.

We only have a couple guys that think the only way you can kill a deer in alabama is with corn. We have 2 properties that are separate from our camp property and that is where we agreed that if corn is to be used, use it there. Will stay the same. They will have a 90ac & a 75ac tract they can put all the corn they want. The 800ac at camp will be corn free.

Only thing it will change for me/us will be where the feeders are.
It is only ANOTHER food source. No magic bullet!
I had the cell cam on the feeder off the plot last week as I sat in plot with my wife. We saw 11 deer in the food plot and ZERO pics at feeder! No deer even came from that way. Other days, I may get pics from feeder before they come in the food plot. You never know. It is simply another food source......no more, no less!

That said, our food plots are planted right, soil amended and quality seed. I keep mineral licks freshened a couple of times a year and our shooting house are mostly set up off the food plots to allow access/egress without spooking the deer feeding in the plot.
I enjoy hunting the woods and over active buck sign as much as anybody. But, honestly, you see plenty of bucks in the food plots.

We feed year round so like Hogwild said, the only thing that will change for is is feeder location.

We put out 3,000 lbs out the year before y'all got the lease. Not sure if it helped. :Kiss

Hell if I fed like I am right now it would cost over $700 a year just for my house. Doubt I'll spend that kind of money at the club too.

Y'all are a bunch of stingy bass-turds..........2 tons a month fed out of gravity feeders.

Hungry deer are your neighbors deer....... :)

I bought 100lbs of corn today. But it's just for hopes of bringing deer past my cameras for my post season survey. I bought probably as many lbs in salt and minerals. 3 trophy rocks and a 50lb salt block.

Considering how poorly baited sites performed back when we were conducting studies on the effects of baiting on hunter success, no I would never bait, even if it were legal. Heck, my neighbors' illegally bait now and they never kill any of our older bucks.

We may do some but it won't become an added cost for hunting on my end. I'd rather put the money in the food plots instead of corn and feeders.

If it passes ad we get good rain, I will probably have 1700 bushels instead of 1500 planted, and will probably feed 8000 lbs in my feeders instead of 6000

Run two feeders jan and feb.each one 350lbs a week, we don't hunt over em, put em in the middle and hold a few more does than normal, buying 4 more this summer to run on my other two farms. Reckon for 5 weeks I will go thru a good bit , but I got 39 food plots as well so plenty to eat

The wife has a gravity feeder in the back yard that hold 200lbs and it was gone in less than two weeks. If the law passes the prices will probably get pretty high for golden acorns.
