I hate to get hung up on an old hard headed gobbler but it has happened. You cant call to him or he'll shut up and leave the area. Never roost in the same place. You know its him.when he gobbles cause its deep and long. Almost sounds like a double gobble but if you listen close its just one real long gobble. Ive been trying to kill.him for about 3 years now and he always does the unexpected.
I had him at 80.yards last week off the roost coming to me slowly and a deer screwed that up. Then today he split away from 2 other gobblers and i heard him gobble towards the back fence. So i concentrated on the 2 other gobblers and moved toward them. They were about 100 yards and gobbling. I wanted to close the distance some and move to a bigger tree so i got on one knee to.get ready to move about 20 yards. Thats when i heard a deep putt behind me. I turned and saw it was the old gobbler sneaking up the hill behind me. He had doubled back on me! Godamighty!!! That SOB's days are numbered. Im going to full sneak mode and i aint ashamed to say it. Sometimes you got to do things that others would frown on. I did learn one thing today. He responds somewhat to leaf scratching so ill be scratching and slipping on him from now on!
He will be a good one i know!
