OK folks need some catfish help
I've got some catfish in my pond that I cannot catch.
they're enormous. I can see them when I feed, they come to the top. they're 30-40+ inches easy. long as my leg, I'm guessing 30lbs plus. I think Channel and Blue but that's just my guess. 10 acre pond.
I think they're devouring my bluegill. I've offered my nephew to come bow-fish them out, he's an avid bow-fisher but he has not been able to come in 2 years.
I need tips or someone to come get them. I've tried bottom fishing, with everything from livers to stinkbait, overnight rigs set up. you name it.
I could pop them with a 308 when they surface, don't really want to do that.
advice?

Put you a not quite hand size bream about a foot and a half or so under a big bobber. Hook him between the dorsal fins and the tail with a good stout hook. Use one of your bass rods and toss him out where you normally see em and hang on. You can do the same thing with a few jugs. Big catfish love bream.

I agree they do love bream. I first thought about bow fishing but I would run jugs or a trot line. That way you could check it daily at your convenience.
I've caught quite a few using shiners or cut bait too.

I'll give the hooked bream a shot. my neighbor actually hooked one and it almost ripped the pole from him. broke the line.

I'll get them out for you. Let's wait til end of April, just in case I'm able to do any turkey hunting. But I know how to get them and we'll have some fun with it too.

Got a pond that’s got some pretty good size ones in it too. They are hard to catch and it seems like they get smart quick when you catch one or two. I have had the best luck with bream on jugs for catching numbers in the pond. My boy caught a pretty good one on a minnow last week.

Try a piece of Slim Jim about 3 feet deep under a bobber. Hot dogs, WalMart stink bait, chicken breast marinated in garlic salt for a couple of days, live bream, etc. Just don't fish on bottom. I don't recall ever catching pond catfish on bottom.
The older I get the more I understand why roosters just scream to start their day.

Boneless chicken breast in bite size chunks with cherry kool aid pack dumped on it. Let it set overnight.
:D Sometimes when I'm home alone I beat it like it owes me money :D

Big night crawlers, several on one hook and NO WEIGHT. Open bail on the reel.
