Live bait

Anyone ever used frogs for live bait? I've got a back yard full of frogs that are about 2 or 3 inches long (about the same size as the artificial lures). They get in my pool at night and if I don't leave the lid off the skimmer, it's full of dead frogs in the morning. I wonder if I could hook one up and do some bass fishing with it? [emoji1]

I've never used em before but I bet they'll catch fish....use a weedless hook through the lips and toss em up in some Lilly pads or grass and hold on!

Yep, I've used live frogs a time a two for bass fishing. They work depending on location . Have caught smallies in a creek and river with them. Caught some nice largemouth in ponds and lakes. Shallow creek fed coves with vegetation on the lakes

M T and DL, how do y'all hook them up? Do you hook through the lips like bobwhite suggested or through a back leg or some other way?

I used to fish a friend's pond, and he put old coffee cans on every fence post. You could get at least one frog out from under every can. Fresh live bait every time I went to his pond. They were green frogs and I would hook them through the back. The catfish in that pond loved them!

You had to be careful though, sometimes there would be a wasp nest under em!

After you pull one off the post that has wasp you learn to knock on the can before lifting it off.... and be ready to run! LOL

We used to in a big pond we had. We use a rubber band. Put the hook on his back and wrap a small band about two times. What ever was left over we used to play frog base ball.
