Post by Deadeye48 »

Walked a long way through Mulberry Fork wma this afternoon and didn’t see one rub or scrape
Seen very little at the club I usually hunt at
Slow start this year?

They think it's July.
Cold weather kicks off the rutting activities and hot weather shuts it down.

We were soaked when we made it to the spot we were hunting
Its just miserable trying to hunt when its hot like this but it meant spending time with my nephew and that made it worth it
I will say the one good thing about hunting this public land is I grew up right in the middle of this place and hunted it before it was ever a WMA so I know places to hunt that nobody knows about

That’s worth a lot.

I found a couple of fresh scrapes Sunday big as table tops. Put a camera on one of them and haven't got a single picture yet. You'd think after all that work in the heat he would have come back. Maybe this weekend when it cools down some he'll come back. Probably be a damn spike.

My cameras have shown that the big bucks work the same scrapes spikes have made first quite often.

Business seems to pick up after some time passes and my scent is no longer there too. I've learned not to check too often because of it.

Like most of what you say, that's a bunch of baloney. Hormones kick off the rutting activity and that just happens to align with colder weather.
