Bankhead info

Post by bowtarist »

Looks like I'm not gonna be able to go out of state this year. Thought about going to bankhead and camping for a week. I've never been. I've got a few questions about it.

How is the terrain compared to the mtns here in Jackson co.

My uncle has a camper we thought about taking. I'm assuming black warrior is in the boundaries of bankhead? Can u camp there for free? Or will I need to make reservations on for one of the spots on bankhead.

Also, is the south better than the north as far as big deer goes?

I've hunted it some but not much. You can find what looks like the perfect spot without much looking because most of it looks great. What little success I've had was in the tick stuff that most folks shy away from. I probably put 100 miles on the horse trails down there in one year and saw 5 does and a turkey.

We always hunted around Thompson creek. I haven't in a few years since we locked all the lease property around our place. I think there is a camp at wolfpen on co. Hwy.60. Let me know what dates you plan to make the trip I will see what I can find out. May even have a hot grill and a cold beer for ya. Also if you remember timber off aldeer depending on date you could be real close to his sanctuary. Lol

Another thing make damn sure you have a good map and compass. You will not have any service in that area. So if you go there let me know . So when you get lost I know where to send the search party. Before you say you won't get lost. Keep in mind one thing every different group has in common they all have been lost. It's real easy to get turned around in that place. As many times as I have stomped around there I have got turned around a time or 2.
